"Once again I’m thrilled to debut my latest remix which was conjured by London based producer extraordinaire Nina Mediatrix whose talents I discovered a few months back via Twitter when we first decided to join forces. After her badass spin on “Wicked Witch Of The West Coast” got such a great response, I decided to ask her back to summon her creative magick on a new track. With “Sky Above, City Below” she reworked my original hip hop hymn into her magnetic golden era style, drenching the vocals in funk guitars, brass and 90’s synths & samples. I love it! She really understands how to make the music resonate from her own unique perspective of incorporating classic elements. While I’m old school, she’s new to the rap game but she has a refreshing musical prowess which really comes across in her production and it’s inspiring to me as an artist. As I said before, it’s great to be working with her at such an early stage in her career. A true sister witch!” - Tairrie B

Since 2014 female fronted Mediatrix Music’s discography has included an eclectic mix of innovative remixes for independent artists, bootleg work and original music. The popular Björk bootleg for Lionsong (Maybe Mediatrix Remix) drew much acclaim, cited early in the year by European music magazine Toutestin as one of "8 New Tracks You Should Know In 2015” and with Nina Mediatrix being heralded as a "Queen Of The New Cool” by the US blog of the same name. Encompassing influences including classical and world music mixed with 'of the moment' electronic production, other notable bootleg work includes Zhala, Azealia Banks and The Prodigy. Summer 2015 saw the release of debut original song “Summer Saga” and accompanying remix which garnered attention and praise from a number of music and feminist blogs. A debut EP is in the pipeline for early 2016.

QUOTE ☞ "I was very flattered to be asked by Tairrie B to produce a follow up to my remix of “Wicked Witch Of The West Coast”. Tairrie B is such an important figure in both rock and hip hop. When I heard “Vintage Curses” the attitude, the samples and the overall mood really resonated with me and I thought it was intelligent, inspired and fresh. That said, the rap in “Sky Above, City Below” instantly appealed to me and I interpreted this song as a tale of Tairrie’s thoughts on her love/hate relationship with LA seeing the city as a metaphor for wider pop culture. With skillful lyrics and delivery, Tairrie pays respect to the architects of West Coast hip hop as well as homage to the glamour and legend of Los Angeles and the Golden State, name checking muse Greta Garbo in one breath and conversely criticizing the more shallow elements of Hollywood alongside the wider theme of a mainstream culture devoid of real meaning. To rephrase a line from the awesome original: Made by women, ’for Women In The Coven of Hip hop’" - Nina / Mediatrix

lyrics

SKY ABOVE, CITY BELOW
------------------------------------
Los Angeles!

The original with the subliminal verses
So blasphemous with the classic curses
Cataclysmic as a wordsmith
Darkness lurks beneath the surface
Poetic catharsis, ominous on purpose
The antithesis to the mindless bullshit
Hexing and better than I’ve ever been
The only chick to go from rap to rock, back to rap again
And goddamn, I’mma speak it my way
Got the power of resurgence like Misty Day
Resurrecting the past as I rep Los Angeles
Streets sparkle from the dust of the vacuous
Reviving my roots with confidence
Conscience, no vapid sex over substance
So I don’t need no one to co-sign this
Timeless with my super flyness

No stars in the sky tonight, a storm’s on the rise
Winds blowing and the tides are high
Don’t be looking my way, if you’re looking for a fight
I don’t care what you say just spell my name right!
No stars in the sky, storm’s on the rise
Winds blowing and the tides are high
If you’re looking my way, don’t be looking for a fight
I don’t care what you say just spell my name right!

Tairrie B. motherfucker remember me?
Sucker free Southern Cali with a colorful history
The infamy precedes me
But don’t shake my hand if it’s not nice to meet me
Voice poised with authority, articulating fire
In my verses like a lyrical cipher
Mystical scryer, vocab spectacular
Hail to the chick with the dope vernacular
It’s déjà vu so you must be trippin'
No strippin’ just verbal riffin’, listen
I’m a Hollywood villain killin’ like Garbo
Pre code, Mata Hari chillin’ at the Chateau
Spittin’ to this or screamin’ to heavy metal
Leavin' lipstick prints all over the instrumental
Let the smoke settle while I take a new form
So be warned I’m reborn in the House of Capricorn

The first white female rapper
Tairrie B...Tairrie B
The West Coast bitch herself!

Night falls on the LA skyline
Iconic like the Hollywood sign
Dramatic, you’ve been waitin’ for this like an addict
So sick when I summon the magick
Hotter than the concrete jungle in sunshine
Solidified with a Golden State of mind
Took an oath to the West Coast
And I respect the architects, con safos!
Drawing down the moon like a daughter
From the hills, highways to the water
Call upon the winds as I craft my chant
A lunar eclipse will manifest my wrath
If the sky was God, I’d believe in him
But the city is the Devil so I’m livin’ in sin
Speech unique, technique antique when I talk
For Women In The Coven of Hip-hop

No stars in the sky tonight, a storm’s on the rise
Winds blowing and the tides are high
Don’t be looking my way, if you’re looking for a fight
I don’t care what you say just spell my name right!
No stars in the sky, storm’s on the rise
Winds blowing and the tides are high
If you’re looking my way, don’t be looking for a fight
I don’t care what you say just spell my name right!
